The Lodges at Cresthaven Adirondack luxury vacation rentals and The Boathouse Restaurant enjoy an exquisite setting on the shores of beautiful Lake George in Upstate NY. Like many of our neighbors along what was once known as “Millionaire’s Row”, the tradition of owning a lakefront vacation home or enjoying luxury vacation rentals in Lake George NY was at it’s height during the 19th and 20th centuries, and our location has a unique history that included some of the most famous characters of the day!
Cresthaven Resort was originally part of an estate owned by the legendary New York Times publisher Alfred Ochs. Ochs purchased the Adirondack estate – known as ‘Abenia’ – in the late 1920’s from financier and philanthropist George Foster Peabody. The Ochs family enjoyed summers filled with swimming, boating, rowing, tennis, shopping in nearby Glens Falls and plenty of golfing – not to mention frequent trips to the Saratoga Race Track! Famous dinner guests at their home were common, and included Franklin Roosevelt, Buffalo Bill Cody, John Philip Sousa and Marcella Sembrich, the opera star who also owned a home on the shores of Lake George.
The Boathouse Restaurant, now a popular destination for Lake George weddings and events, was a functioning boathouse that housed the estate’s boats, and the main house served as the home for Mr. Ochs’ secretary. The main mansion was located directly across the street from what is now Cresthaven Resort, most of which was destroyed by fire.
Today, the Lodges at Cresthaven and the Boathouse Restaurant allow guests and owners to continue to enjoy the sparkling waters of Lake George and stunning mountain views from the comfort of their elegant private Lake George townhouses and luxury Adirondack luxury vacation rentals.
