When you think of an Adirondack vacation, the first thing that comes to mind is enchanting mountain views and sprawling forests. The Adirondack Park surrounding Lake George has been a natural wonder for travelers since the mid-1800s. But, today, Lake George has much more than natural beauty to offer vacationers. The Lake George area has become a hotspot for arts and culture with live theater, impressive art museums, and live performances from local musicians. There are so many things to do near Lake George that you will need the perfect place to recharge your batteries at the end of the day. Our vacation rentals at The Lodges at Cresthaven provide spacious, comfortable lakefront properties ideal for relaxation. The following Lake George area activities are some of the best ways to explore the arts and culture here.
Dinner and a Show | Live Theater
Every year The Lake George Dinner Theatre puts together a comedic live performance at the Charles R. Wood Theater in nearby Glens Falls. You can buy a ticket for the performance and choose to add on a delicious dinner before the show. This year the performance is titled “Buyer and Cellar,” which is the comedic tale of Alex More and chronicles the price of fame. This performance runs until the middle of September, and tickets can be purchased here. If you miss out on this performance, don’t worry; the Charles R. Wood Theater has live entertainment and film showings throughout the year. View all the upcoming events and shows here.
Art Museum | Hyde Collection
Artwork that spans over 6,000 years can be found at the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. The distinguished collection of European and American art features some of the most renowned artists throughout the millennium. The museum includes Sandro Botticelli, Rembrandt, Edgar Degas, Georges Seurat, Pablo Picasso, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, and many more. The Hyde Collection constantly brings in new exhibits, but the permanent collection consists of over 5,000 paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, and works on paper. Visit the museum Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm and view exceptional art during your Lake George vacation.
Live Music in Lake George
The summer months in Lake George host live music all over town, but with summer coming to an end, so does the music at Shepard Park. But, luckily several bars and restaurants feature live music throughout the year.
- The Lake George Beach Club: Live music can be heard daily at The Lake George Beach Club. Enjoy great food, drinks, and local artists on the outdoor patio. View the live music schedule here and stop in at the beach club.
- King Neptune Bar and Grill: On the shores of Lake George, you can stop for a drink at three different bars when you visit King Neptune Bar and Grill. You can often hear live music on the roof, but we recommend checking their Facebook page for updates.
