Lake George has long been a summer destination, but winter in Lake George offers the same abundance of activities for nature lovers. From hiking through beautiful trails to exhilarating snowmobile rides, winter in Lake George is calling your name!

  • Skiing & Snowboarding: The largest trail network for skiing and snowboarding in New York can be found half an hour away at Gore Mountain. Glide past incredible mountain views on over 100 trails ranging from beginner to expert.
  • Winter Hiking: Taking a hike is an excellent way to get outside and take in scenic snowy landscapes in Lake George. Take a leisurely walk at Pilot Knob Preserve or embark on mountain summit hikes at Shelving Rock Mountain and Prospect Mountain.

Lake George Winter Carnival

The Lake George Winter Carnival is a must-do winter activity if you are visiting the area in February. The carnival offers several activities like wood carving demonstrations and cook-off competitions—sample tasty cook-off items like chowder, chili, BBQ, and chicken wings. You can also watch entertaining races on the frozen waters of Lake George or the local favorite outhouse races.

There are also plenty of Lake George winter activities the kids will love. There are children’s activities available every day of the carnival at Shepard Park, where you can warm up in front of the bonfire and enjoy free s’mores.
