Below we’ve selected three favorites to give you a better understanding of what to expect and where to go hiking in the Adirondacks.

Pilot Knob Preserve

Offering stunning views of Lake George, Pilot Knob Preserve is a relatively easy, 3.8-mile hike that’s great for families with children. Located only 20 minutes from Cresthaven by car, this hike features a sensational waterfall, an iconic lookout gazebo, and a slight incline to make it easy on the kiddos while still getting your heart pumping. With awe-inspiring vistas and ample green space, Pilot Knob Preserve is a great place for everything from a quaint picnic to a rowdy game of two-hand touch.

Sleeping Beauty Mountain

On Lake George’s eastern shores, Sleeping Beauty Mountain is a moderately challenging 7.8-mile jaunt following a sparsely used old road before its gradual ascension. The entire loop can take around three and a half hours and features several steep switchbacks. More suitable for older children and teenagers, younger kids may not effectively navigate the rocky outcrops and drastic inclines.

Prospect Mountain Trail

Widely considered to be one of the crown jewels of the Adirondack hiking trails, Prospect Mountain is a 2.8-mile out and back rated as difficult. Ideally located in Lake George Village, this summit showcases magnificent 360-degree vantage points that patrons won’t soon forget. This short yet reasonably challenging hike is not ideal for children because of the steep ascents and rocky terrain. However, there are a few opportunities to rest along the way if the kids want to give it a shot. With 100-mile views, unique landmarks, and proximity to Cresthaven, it’s no surprise that Prospect Mountain has become a mainstay of the Adirondack Mountains.
