Boat Washing on Lake George

2019-07-26T15:41:38+00:00Blog|

As some of you may have heard in previous years, Lake George, like many lakes in the United States, was experiencing problems with invasive species.   The Asian clam, watermilfoil, zebra muscles and the spiny water flea are just a few that have plagued Lake George.    Since the waterways are connected it opens the door for the species to spread.   In order to gain control over the problem Lake George is taking a HUGE step in avoiding these invaders and requiring Mandatory Boat Washing for all watercraft being launched into the Lake George waters.   You can find out information here. Beginning [...]

Unobstructed views at The Boathouse

2019-07-26T14:24:34+00:00Blog|

During the winter months we are always doing something. You would think since we work so hard throughout the open season that we may just kick our heels up and relax... no way! One of the projects from the 2013 / 2014 winter was to take the old deck railings from The Boathouse Lakeside Terrace off and replace them with tempered glass railings. The glass railings have really made a difference in the space, the views are not blocked in any way! Here are a few "before" photos followed by the "after" shots! Here are the before (very nice but [...]

2019-07-26T14:30:49+00:00Blog|

The St. Martin Wedding         The Lodges at Cresthaven                                                When my wife and I started planning our wedding, the only things we really knew for sure was that we wanted it to be unique, with our own personal twist and we wanted it to be on Lake George. I had grown up near Lake George and had been swimming and boating in the lake for as long as I can remember. Having met my wife in New York City, I couldn’t wait to show her my favorite place on earth. Our first trip as a couple was camping on the [...]

While most people think of Lake George as a summer town we forget the beauty of the area in the winter.    Here are photos taken around the resort in the last few weeks.  Not too bad, huh?   This first photo was taken on a very chilly morning in early January.  The temperature when the photo was taken was -9 degrees!     This was taken looking at the Boathouse from the grassy area near our pool.   Again, it was on that VERY chilly morning.     Another shot looking towards the south.  The sun was trying to get up warm things [...]

Abenia Estate – The History of Our Property

2019-07-26T14:46:15+00:00Blog|

The property that The Boathouse Restaurant stands on has a lot of history.   We did a little internet research on sites such as Wikipedia and found a lot of information in the book Millionaires' Row on Lake George, NY by author and historian William Preston Gates. Lake George, NY was a summertime playground for the most wealthy Americans.   Many of the richest Americans built "cottages" on the lake.   These "cottages" consisted of large homes including multiple bedrooms and being as large as 20,000 square feet!   In the 1860's Walter W. Price followed some of his wealthy friends and purchased land on the [...]
